Your responsibilities as a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse in the Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) will include the comprehensive evaluation of patients who present to the Emergency Department with psychiatric or psychosocial crises, under the recovery model’s principles.

As a member of an interdisciplinary team in the emergency department, you will work with emergency physicians and psychiatrists to ascertain the patient’s course of treatment, assess the patient’s condition, and ascertain the severity of the illness and the potential risk to oneself or others. As a PES Nurse, you will collaborate with the services to coordinate referrals to community services or admission to inpatient facilities in accordance with the clients’ requirements. In collaboration with the patient, you will assess and create an effective plan to identify and coordinate care for clients who require appropriate services by utilizing the Addiction and Mental Health continuum.

You will provide clients with succinct interventions and, under the RN/RPN scope of practice, identify, initiate, and modify interventions as the patients’ needs change, as required by law.
